fibreglassing advise on a custom bow

Postby wayofthebow on 02 Mar 2010, 14:56

i just need to know how much extra poundage a layer of fibreglass front and back add's roughly to a bow, as i dont want it to end up too heavy. its a 67" longbow at about 30 pound as is. cheers.

What sort of fiberglass are we talking about?
Also the thickness of the glass?

its long strand stuff. got me some for cheap, reccomended for its flexabile strength from a friend of a friend who works with fibreglass bathtubs, so im guessing it'll be slightly thicker than the usual stuff used, but can always sand it down some if need be, or make the bow a lighter weight to start. only thing im not sure about is what resin or glue to use, and where to get it from.

You can use that sort of glass but it's not recomended, the main reason being it's almost impossible to get an even thickness of it. Which will mess up not only the poundage but also the tiller, way too much work involved. ;)
