whoah... wasnt expecting that lot. makes me feel real wanted, heheh.
i hear what your all saying tho, wise comments, makes sense.
unfortunatly, seems like the same response i eventually run into on whichever forum i use (all tho its obviously a little more serious here as the harming of animals is involved  ).
boils down to my lack of money mainly, ive been saving up for the last year and a half and just have enough for a £100 bow so i can start the great sport of archery again. things like training lessons, club memberships, licences and broadheads are an unobtainable luxury for me.
for your peace of mind tho, ill stick to just targets for now.

The costs involved for hunting are sometimes expensive , but its just a matter of how much you want it . I took my IBEP ( which was great ) , but i can onlky afford to go hunting once every 2 years and believe me .... its worth it . Do things the right way , be patient and you will have fun . It will cost me roughly including flight , tag and spends , about £1200 - £1500 depending on how much money i will take this year to Colorado . spread out over two years , thats a bargain and worth the effort . The rest of the time i'm practicing for the hunt ..... simples ;)

WOTB - Well sorry you feel unwelcome mate, you asked for advice on bowhunting and we gave you advice... Sorry if it came across badly but I'm sure you understand why the majority of us are quite 'anti - poaching'. It was one of the reasons it was originally banned in this country.... I'm sure you also understand that while talking about such things face to face is also a lot different that posting a discussion on a public internet forum? I understand if you're strapped for cash - maybe if you have a word with John you guys may find a way for you to do the IBEP course. PM me any time if you need help or advice - no hard feelings mate! ;)

Interesting thread!

As most of you all know I spent 2ish years working as a gamekeeper (garde de chasse) in France back in '95 when they were legislating bowhunting over there (incidentally that is what got me into bowhunting, but that's another story) We caught several poachers on 'our' estate. most of them lost their guns, their vehicles, their freedom and a few their wife! We had even been shot at when trying to apprehend poachers due to the severe penalties imposed over there.

Now, if you want to shoot in France with your bow, you can do as a visitor if you go to the mayors office of the district you wish to shoot, show them your hunter ed. and then buy a French license (week long) hunter ed is any training you have received as a bowhunter IBEP is ideal! Remember you will still have to buy tags for any large game ie. chevreuil, sanglier, Cerf sika etc....

I would recommend you took the IBEP it's cheap and will equip you well for your future bowhunting adventures.
The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter - Orteyga
